TC Energy is a North American energy infrastructure leader committed to delivering reliable energy. The company integrates projects like Saddlebrook, an AltaLink transmission-connected solar PV, battery storage, and substation project, to support a low-carbon future.
Challenges:
The project faced stringent environmental protection requirements to preserve local wildlife, including leopard frogs, red-tail hawks, and bank swallows. Managing 18,141 helical pile foundations with an 11% refusal rate posed additional technical challenges, necessitating necessitating remedial civil work and real-time spatial testing to support engineering approvals.
Solution:
SkyFire installed 185,276 solar modules using 100 km of FlexRack 25-degree fixed-tilt racking. The system’s design addressed complex site conditions while integrating with the AltaLink infrastructure. This grid-tied solution is future-proofed to accommodate battery storage, enhancing sustainability.
Results:
Completed in December 2023, the Saddlebrook Solar project supports TC Energy’s sustainability goals. The system’s design minimizes environmental impact and reinforces the company's leadership in responsible energy development. Future battery storage (Phase 2) will further improve grid stability.
