The Irricana Solar Project is a 6.232 MWp utility-scale solar system in Rocky View County, Alberta, designed to produce and sell solar electricity into the Alberta grid. SkyFire Energy provided full turnkey services, ensuring seamless integration with the electrical utility while supporting the province’s transition to renewable energy.
Challenges:
SkyFire overcame severe environmental challenges, including frigid winter temperatures, high winds, and snow drifts, to keep the project on schedule. Precise coordination was required to assemble the foundations, racking, and 14,000 modules under harsh conditions, ensuring successful installation without compromising safety or efficiency.
Solution:
SkyFire installed a 6.2 MWp ground-mounted solar PV system with 14,000 modules and 20 inverters, delivering 5.1 MWac of power to Alberta’s grid.
Results:
SkyFire completed the project on schedule in July 2022, providing reliable, renewable energy to the Alberta grid. The system diversifies the province’s energy sources, reduces its carbon footprint, and enhances grid stability, demonstrating SkyFire’s expertise in large-scale solar installations in challenging environments.
