Last year, we partnered with Heart & Solar, a registered Canadian charity with a goal of providing long term financial relief to other Canadian charities while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions and supporting local businesses. Heart & Solar identifies various charitable organizations across Canada, which will benefit from the use of renewable solar energy systems to reduce regular energy costs. Heart & Solar will then raise funds for the solar PV system, which we will install at a discounted rate for these charitable organizations.
We are excited to announce that Heart & Solar has launched their first project with Horizon Housing Society!
Horizon Housing Society is a not-for-profit organization that provides affordable, integrated and supported homes to over 700 individuals in the City of Calgary. The Society serves tenants with a variety of special needs including those with mental health challenges, physical disabilities, and families and seniors living below the poverty line.
We plan to install a 50 kW system on the new Horizon Housing development, located in Elbow Valley, which will save them approximately $5,000 annually in operational costs.
Why $5,000 in savings is important:
- A vulnerable family or individual is able to make a home because their rent is subsidized to make it truly affordable
- Horizon House can complete maintenance on eight units, giving tenants the continued opportunity to enjoy a quality, safe and secure home
- Tenants and community members can come together during the holiday season as guests of Horizon Housing’s annual holiday party

To make this project a reality, Heart and Solar will be collecting donations and sponsorships. With a fundraising goal of $120,000, your support is crucial to the success of this project.
