Project:

Okanagan Health Sciences Building

Project Details:

Okanagan College’s new Health Sciences Centre at the Kelowna campus reflects its commitment to sustainability. In collaboration with Bird Construction and SkyFire Energy, the building integrates renewable energy systems, enhancing efficiency and supporting educational goals in health and social development.

Challenges:
The Health Sciences Centre aimed to demonstrate onsite energy production and reduced water consumption, requiring a solar PV system that integrated seamlessly into the building’s design. The challenge was to balance high-energy performance with aesthetics while supporting Okanagan College’s sustainability and educational objectives.

Solution:
SkyFire installed a 32 kW wall-mounted solar PV system and a solar canopy with EV charging. The design maximized energy production, preserved architectural integrity, and provided hands-on learning opportunities, demonstrating SkyFire’s approach to sustainable building projects.

Results:
The system produces 35,000 kWh annually, reducing energy costs and supporting Okanagan College’s energy production goals. The Health Sciences Centre serves as a learning hub, offering students practical experience with solar technology and reinforcing Okanagan College’s leadership in sustainability.
