Project:

Solar Canopy at Okanagan College

Project Details:

Okanagan College partnered with SkyFire Energy to install a 194 kW solar canopy at its Kelowna campus. This project integrates renewable energy into the campus infrastructure while promoting sustainable practices and offering protection from the weather for trades students.

Challenges:

The challenge was creating a high-capacity solar system that integrates seamlessly into the campus’s architecture while maximizing energy production and maintaining functionality without disrupting the educational environment.

Solution:

SkyFire Energy installed a 194 kW solar canopy that not only generates renewable energy but also provides a covered area for students in the trades departments, specifically heavy duty mechanics. The canopy was designed to blend into the campus layout and optimize energy production.

Results:

The solar canopy generates 210,000 kWh annually, significantly reducing energy costs. It enhances campus functionality by providing an additional gathering space while supporting the College’s green initiatives and sustainability goals.
