Building a Brighter Future with Indigenous Solar Projects
SkyFire Energy partners with Indigenous communities across Western Canada to develop solar projects that create lasting economic opportunities, build energy independence, and honour the land for future generations.
Partnering for Indigenous Solar Progress
SkyFire Energy is committed to building meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities through solar projects that create lasting impact. Guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 92, we strive to advance renewable energy solutions that respect the land, support local leadership, and strengthen community self-reliance for generations to come.
Creating Lasting Impact Through Indigenous Solar Projects
We commit to meaningful consultation, building respectful relationships, and obtaining the free, prior, and informed consent of Indigenous peoples before proceeding with business development.
We ensure that Indigenous communities have equitable access to jobs, training, and education by hiring and training community members to work on the Indigenous solar projects we design and install. Our goal is to help communities achieve long-term, sustainable benefits through these initiatives.
We also commit to providing education for our management and staff on the history and lived experiences of Indigenous peoples to foster understanding and respect in every partnership.
Meaningful Indigenous Consultation and Community Engagement
Each partnership begins with listening, relationship building, and mutual respect. The focus is on working with the community, not just for the community.
Every Indigenous solar project is developed through a customized engagement process that reflects each community’s unique goals, culture, and priorities. SkyFire Energy works side by side with Indigenous leadership to design and install systems that deliver long-term value and local empowerment.
Engagement initiatives often include ground-breaking ceremonies, community project tours, open houses, youth and Elder storytelling projects, and celebrations that honour each milestone from concept to completion.
Indigenous Training and Employment Opportunities
SkyFire Energy is committed to creating meaningful training and employment opportunities within the communities involved in Indigenous solar projects. Training programs typically range from one day to one week and provide participants with a solid understanding of construction practices and the fundamentals of solar installation.
Each project aims to maximize community participation during installation, ensuring local members gain hands-on experience and contribute directly to their community’s renewable energy goals. Employment duration varies based on project scope, lasting from several weeks to many months. In some cases, community members have joined SkyFire’s team full-time or returned for future project expansions.
Every Indigenous solar project is unique, and SkyFire Energy strives to ensure that each partnership supports long-term skill development, community pride, and sustainable energy independence.
